For Shelby, the date is February 9, 2015. How clearly she remembers walking out the door of Care Net’s First Care Clinic with an ultrasound picture and a reason to live.
“My lifestyle had become so unmanageable that every time I spoke with my mother on the phone, she asked me how she should start planning my funeral. I knew I had to get clean, but I didn’t know how. Then a miracle happened: I found out I was pregnant. Yes, a miracle, because this baby saved my life. Right then and there I stopped everything and I moved back home to start planning for our future–the future I would have with my baby. Now I had a reason to live! Not only did Care Net help me prepare for motherhood, they helped me rekindle my relationship with my mother and helped me recognize that I deserve healthy relationships in my life and how to have them.”
Now, Seven years later, Shelby and her daughter are thriving.
Today, Shelby has healthy relationships, a fulfilling job, and joy being a mom. She shared, “Seven years ago today I found out I was pregnant. My life changed in the blink of an eye. I couldn’t be happier with my life right now. My daughter is healthy, happy, smart, funny, beautiful, and keeps me on my toes. I have a man in my life that makes me so happy (didn’t think it would ever happen). My job is the best I could ever ask for, with so many beautiful people I call my friends. Cheers to the next year and all the wonderful possibilities the future holds.”
