Giving Thanks has a new meaning for us this Season

A young first-time mom is heavy with child. Devine* has no resources to her name and has been sleeping in shelters, wondering what she’ll do when her child comes. She had been living with a friend and paying rent for a room. She didn’t realize the woman she rented from was illegally collecting rent until the landlord found out and told her she had to leave. With no money for a downpayment for her own apartment, and unable to find anything she could afford, she had turned to the shelter.

An online search led her to The Elizabeth House. We quickly gathered the medical and background releases needed to move her in. Devine felt an immediate sense of relief. Now she was in a safe place, and she had a real home to bring her child home to.

And the timing was clearly God’s. Three days after moving in, she went into labor and gave birth to her son on Thanksgiving day. What a blessing!

Thank you for making it possible to help women like Devine who are facing a pregnancy they weren’t expecting, and who lack the resources they need to thrive. Devine was surviving day to day. Now she and her son are in a safe place where they can get the help they need to thrive.
