What says summer like sunshine and a cookout?
We partnered with East Madison Community Center to host a Summer Grill and Chill this past Friday, June 21. Our goal is to reach men and women in their own communities so we can serve them right where they are. You’ve probably heard that our mobile clinic will be traveling to different neighborhoods but our Fatherhood program, Being Dad, has already been out and about.
As the fatherhood coordinator for the program, I meet with men wherever they can meet. Sometimes that’s a library, local fast food restaurant, or a park bench. In an effort to reach more men and spread the word about the free parenting and mentoring classes for Dad’s, we partnered with East Madison Community Center (EMCC) Assistant Director De’Kendrea Stamps to coordinate a day of community, food, and music. Music was provided by Make Music Madison and Care Net friends, Kevin and Shannon Inman of Second Peace did all the grilling for us!
We estimate close to 125 people came out to enjoy the festivities. This is just the first of many activities planned for the summer to reach Dads. We plan to co-host more events like this with EMCC.
