What does Care Net have to do with proclaiming freedom? Aren’t we about saving and changing lives? Yes!
But we are about much more than saving lives of innocent, unborn children – as critical as that is. God has called us to serve women and men making pregnancy decisions. To offer them support and needed services. To provide real choices. To come alongside pregnant women who may feel overwhelmed. To help them gain the support they need to parent their children or make plans for adoption. To help fathers step into fatherhood and learn what it means to be a dad. To share the love of Christ and a better way of living.
Doing this embodies the spirit of Isaiah 61.
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor…” Isaiah 61: 1-2a
God has “anointed” you and me to proclaim good news to the poor. Many days, we are very literally proclaiming good news to the poor. Good news about the love of Jesus Christ. Good news that they have options. Good news that there are resources and support available to make their best decision.
While many of those we serve are living paycheck to paycheck or struggling to find stable employment, “poor” can also go beyond finances. Some of the women we serve may be poor in relationships. They may lack adequate family and community support to become the moms they’d like to be some day.
God has sent us to bind up the brokenhearted. The woman who thought that the man she loved would always be there for her, and for their child, and is now making this life-changing decision alone. And the woman and man who made an abortion decision in the past and are seeking to find forgiveness and healing.
We proclaim freedom to those who are captive to distorted ideas. Ideas about relationships and sexuality that are promoted in Hollywood. Ideas like they need to have a boyfriend or girlfriend to be somebody. Or that they need to be sexually active to keep their partner with them. We care for each woman and man who comes through our doors. Each one is a person created in the image of God – and we seek to share the love of their heavenly father with each one.
Finally, we proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. We seek to share the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. The gospel that brings true and lasting freedom for women and men, teens and children.
Thank you for being a part of proclaiming and bringing freedom and good news.
