Jenna is like many of the women we see in our clinic. She feels isolated and alone. Fearing she might be pregnant, she remembers how her mother told her all through her teen years, “You better never come home pregnant. If your stupid enough to get yourself into trouble you take care of it yourself.”
Her partner, who now says he’s not sure “she’s right for him”, wants her to get an abortion. He tells her they have no future together. If she wants a baby, she’s on her own. Her friends don’t want to see her struggle or hurting. They believe that an abortion will make it all go away. They say, “You have a way out. I hear it’s no big deal, you just take a pill and your period will start.”
Jenna has reservations. After all she took biology. She’s seen photos of ultrasounds. She tells herself that maybe she “isn’t at that stage yet” . Her pregnancy is just a clump of cells right now.
Thanks to friends like you, Jenna could see an ad for First Care Clinic where she can talk to medical professionals who will provide her with accurate information on fetal development. She could get a pregnancy test and ultrasound and it won’t cost her any money. She could have the opportunity to experience support from a patient advocate and resources that will address each and every one of her concerns.
If her mother remains steadfast in her refusal to support an unintended pregnancy, Jenna can find a safe and supportive place to live during and after her pregnancy in our maternity and parenting home.
