A Legacy of Life: How One Woman’s Choice Saved Two Generations

Kenzie was scared. Still in high school, she believed she was pregnant. And everyone around her seemed to know what was best: abort.  She felt pressured by all the adults in her life except one, her Aunt Keke.

Aunt Keke knew exactly how Kenzie felt, because she had been in Kenzie’s shoes when she was just eighteen. Fortunately, in her time of uncertainty and anxiety, Aunt Keke had found herself at a place that offered her real choices, First Care Clinic.

“It was because of this clinic that I chose to keep my son,” shared Aunt Keke. So, when Aunt Keke learned that Kenzie was also facing an unexpected pregnancy and was being pressured by her family to abort her child, she knew exactly where to take her.

Kenzie came to our office and scheduled a follow-up ultrasound scheduled for the next week. But her appointment time came and went, and Kenzie didn’t show up or call. We tried to connect with her, but we weren’t successful. We feared she had succumbed to the pressure to abort her child but continued to pray.

And God patiently and lovingly protected Kenzie and her baby.

Two months later, she called to reschedule her ultrasound appointment. And this time her mother, who had been against the idea of Kenzie continuing the pregnancy, came too.

As part of every appointment, we have a few minutes to share the hope of Jesus. During the conversation with her advocate, Kenzie shared that she had just recently been introduced to Jesus.  “My best friend always had these qualities about her. She handles things differently than me – I’ve always been filled with anger,” Kenzie told her advocate.  “I wanted to be more like her and my best friend said that was Jesus.”

Our advocate told Kenzie that yes, she, too, could experience that peace and transformation in her life. Kenzie said, “I want to get to know Him better.”

Kenzie still has many hurdles to overcome.  She is very young, and she is no longer seeing her boyfriend. But she made the courageous decision to choose life and is preparing herself to become a mom and is getting ready to take parenting classes so she can become the best mother possible.

Kenzie’s story and the very life of her child may not have been possible if it hadn’t been for her Aunt Keke’s experience. Years ago, your prayers and financial support helped Keke choose life. And that experience empowered Keke to help her niece find a place where she could find hope and encouragement to choose life for her own child. Over the 40 years of our existence, First Care Clinic has shown thousands of young women they have real support and real options when it comes to facing an unexpected pregnancy. Thank you for creating and supporting a true legacy for life.
