Reflections from the desk of CEO, Sara Patterson

Daisy* was raised in an abusive home.  When she was barely eighteen, her desire to be loved and cared for left Daisy facing an unintended pregnancy with no support.  Her father felt this justified kicking her out of the house.

But that didn’t feel like justice to Daisy. She was about to have a baby. She was jobless, homeless, and without a high school education or a way to support herself and her child. All because she’d believed the wrong person would love and support her.

Daisy is one of the many women who come to us seeking justice for their upside-down situations. It’s not fair that she grew up in a home where her parents harmed her instead of protecting and loving her. It’s not fair that she alone stood to face the consequences of sexual sin when someone else was clearly involved.

Twenty years ago, Care Net, with the support of friends like you, decided to do our part to provide justice to women and children in need by opening The Elizabeth House. Since then, we’ve served over 330 women and children. That’s three hundred and thirty lives forever changed by God’s love and grace. Three hundred and thirty people who have experienced the tender care of the Shepherd through the body of Christ.

Daily, staff and volunteers were there to minister, encourage, educate, and gently push these moms towards a life of thriving.  Not all of them achieved the goals we hoped they would, but they all experienced Christ’s love and were introduced to the source of all power, hope, and strength.

Now, we have the opportunity to reach even more women and children through relational ministry in a second Elizabeth House. We have a home under contract and are in the process of applying for conditional permits in the Village of Marshall, just outside of Sun Prairie. Please visit carenetdane.org/expand for timely updates, and to see how you can get involved.  We’ll have opportunities for friends to:

  • Provide funding to purchase, remodel and furnish the new property
  • Help with demo
  • Handle flooring, painting and other remodeling work—trades people, we need you!
  • Staff and volunteer openings at the new home
  • Pray, pray and pray!

Together, we can change our community into a place that is rich in resources and full of opportunities for courageous women who choose life. This will be “The House the Church Builds” Click here to get involved!

Together, we can as Micah says, “Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God.”
