Have you ever known a Leeza*?
A young woman whose home pregnancy test showed the results she was most afraid of?
For many Leezas a positive pregnancy test will lead to feelings of panic and desperation. And too often, when she turns to her circle of support for advice, she’ll hear some version of: “Get it taken care of right away,” “Now they have pills for that. It’s easy, just Google it.”
But not every Leeza shares her friends’ certainty that abortion is her only option. She’s not sure how she feels about abortion and not sure that choice is right for her.
We want to let Leeza know abortion isn’t her only option. She does have a choice.
At Care Net, we are not ashamed of our position. We don’t believe Leeza is crazy to want to continue her pregnancy. We believe it’s a God-given response for mothers to want to love and care for their children. Our culture wants to undermine those instincts by replacing truth with rhetoric.
We are not ashamed to say that NO life should ever be thrown away—a mom’s life, a dad’s life or baby’s life. Each one is precious, and we will do everything in our power to help each one of them thrive.
We are not ashamed to offer choices other than abortion. Supporting life is not a popular position, especially in our pro-choice county. But after nearly 40 years, we know it’s possible to build a community of resources that allows women to continue their pregnancy and thrive.
I know many women believe abortion is their only choice—and it can certainly feel like it when the people who should be supporting women like Leeza let them down. How often have single mothers been stigmatized and left on their own? Been made to feel immense pressure and shame about their pregnancy? How many don’t know there are places to go for help—and people who will be there for them?
But thanks to people like you, we can change that. We can break through the rhetoric. We can offer women the support and resources to choose life for their babies and themselves.
Your gift will save a baby’s life. It affirms a mother’s innate desire to protect her unborn child and makes it possible. Just as important, your gift provides care for the Leezas of the world, too.
And now, thanks to a group of generous donors, your gift will be doubled if received by December 31!
You will give Leeza access to ongoing care and physical, emotional and spiritual help throughout her pregnancy and beyond. Thanks to you, Leeza can tap into free education, parenting resources and material support like baby equipment and clothing. She’ll receive free financial training. She’ll have a social worker who will work with her to understand her goals for her life and her child’s—and help her to achieve them.
If Leeza needs a place to live, we’ll provide that too at The Elizabeth House, our maternity and parenting home. There, Leeza will find 24-hour support, encouragement, and the chance to live among young women with similar life experiences. She’ll have the resources to prepare for a better life and an opportunity to meet Jesus.
In short, Care Net will show Leeza that abortion isn’t her only choice.
These are what we call soul-enriching options that affirm both Leeza and her child.
It’s not always easy to live these beliefs in a pro-choice community like Dane County. But I am proud to say I believe in providing these options to women. This is how we show God’s love and compassion as it says in James… “to take care of orphans and widows in their suffering and to keep oneself from being corrupted by the world.”
I thank you in advance for your gift of care. Your gift will allow Leeza to experience God’s love for her and her baby. Your gift will say, “I am not ashamed to provide tangible help and resources throughout south central Wisconsin to women and men facing an unintended pregnancy.”
